Throttle Actuator "A" Control Motor Circuit Range/Performance
High· Fix promptlyIntermediatePowertrainGeneric, all makes
What it means
The electronic throttle body is not moving to the position the ECU commands. The ECU will usually limit engine power to keep the car controllable.
Is it safe to drive?
Drive with caution. Limp mode limits acceleration, which can be dangerous when merging or overtaking.
Symptoms
- Reduced power / limp mode warning
- Poor or no throttle response
- Rough or high idle
- Stalling
Probable causes
Most likely first
- 1Carbon build-up making the throttle plate stick
- 2Failing throttle body motor or gears
- 3Wiring or connector fault
- 4Low battery voltage
How to diagnose it
Work through these in order before buying parts
- 1Record the code and its freeze frame data (speed, load, temperature when it set), then clear it and see if it comes back.
- 2Check battery voltage and terminals.
- 3Inspect and clean the throttle body (engine off, key out).
- 4Check the connector for corrosion and pushed-out pins.
- 5Perform a throttle relearn after cleaning.
- 6Check for technical service bulletins (TSBs) or software updates for your make and model; some codes have known factory fixes.
Common fixes
- Clean the throttle body and perform a relearn
- Replace the throttle body
- Repair wiring
This information is general guidance for all makes. Exact causes, specifications and procedures vary by vehicle, so confirm with your service manual or a qualified mechanic before replacing parts.
